Manufacturer Warranty
Manufacturer warranty service is handled by the manufacturer directly. Your receipt and your appliance's brand, model, and serial number will help the manufacturer locate your warranty coverage and service options.
That has always been true, and it stays true now. Your appliance is covered by the company that built it, not by the store that sold it to you. Find your brand on the table below, call the number listed, and have your paperwork ready.
What to have on hand before you call
Every manufacturer asks for the same four things. Gathering them first could help turn a long call into a short one.
- Proof of purchase. Your original receipt or invoice, which shows the purchase date your coverage is measured from.
- Brand and model number. Usually printed on a sticker or metal plate on the appliance itself.
- Serial number. Unique to your unit, and the fastest way for a manufacturer to pull up your record.
- Your address and a working phone number, so a service technician can be dispatched.
Where to find your model and serial number
The plate is never on the front. Here is where to look, by appliance type.
- Refrigerators. Inside the fresh food compartment, along the upper left wall or on the ceiling of the cabinet.
- Ranges and cooktops. Behind the storage drawer at the bottom, or along the frame under the cooktop lid.
- Dishwashers. On the inner edge of the door, visible when the door is open.
- Washers and dryers. Inside the door or lid opening, or on the back panel near the top.
- Wall ovens and microwaves. Along the inner door frame, or on the side wall of the cavity.
Photograph the plate once and save it. You will need it again.
If you lost your receipt
Most manufacturers can verify coverage using the serial number alone, since it identifies the manufacture date. Call the brand directly and explain the situation. If you paid by credit card, your statement can also serve as proof of purchase date.
Warranty contacts by brand
Several brands share a parent company, so the line you call may answer under a different name than the one on your appliance. For example, Whirlpool handles five of the brands below; BSH handles three.
