Built-In Microwaves

  • A built-in microwave offers a sleek, finished look to any kitchen. They nestle flush with cabinet fronts and are available in door or pull-out drawer models. Coast Appliances carries built-in microwaves in many different finishes with various features.

Microwaves: Built-in and Drawer Benefits

Built-in and drawer microwaves integrate seamlessly into your kitchen design, offering a sleek, streamlined look that frees up countertop space. These models are designed to fit within cabinetry or under the counter, making them an excellent choice for kitchens with limited space or for homeowners aiming for a minimalist aesthetic. The built-in nature also means that these microwaves are positioned at a convenient height, reducing the need for bending and reaching, which enhances accessibility and usability.

In terms of functionality, built-in and drawer microwaves match the performance of their countertop counterparts with features that cater to modern cooking demands. These generally include convection cooking, which allows you to bake and roast dishes similar to a traditional oven, with sensor cooking functions that automatically adjust cooking time based on moisture levels in the food, and touch controls that provide a high level of precision and ease of use.

Built-In Microwaves FAQ

Because they’re designed to work with standard cabinetry sizes, built-in microwaves are available in standard widths of 24, 27 and 30 inches. At Coast Appliances, we don’t want you to be limited by “standard,” so we carry many other sizes.

Built-in microwaves do not need to be vented to the outdoors. But they must have venting clearance around the top, sides and bottom as the manufacturer recommends. Failing to provide this space can lead to overheating and even be a fire hazard.

Countertop microwaves are designed to have plenty of free space around them, especially at the back. Installing them in a cabinet is not recommended because it does not provide the same venting space. Some countertop microwaves may have optional trim kits for built-in conversion.

Only microwaves designed to be installed as built-in units should be used this way, and they should only be built in according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Using a professional installer - like those recommended by Coast Appliances - will help ensure a safe, successful install.

Wolf, Thermador, Bosch, and KitchenAid are all popular built-in microwave models. These, along with other reliable brands, are available at Coast Appliances today.
